The AACC supports the government’s actions and sees this moment as a necessary step in strengthening Alberta’s private career college sector.
“We support the government’s efforts to ensure every institution is operating in full compliance with legislation,” said Tim Ogilvie, Board Chair of the Alberta Association of Career Colleges. “This aligns directly with our Build Strategy, which is focused on building trust, building capacity, and building community. It’s a critical moment for our sector to lean into integrity and collaboration.”
The Build Strategy guides AACC’s approach by:
- Building Trust – promoting transparency and accountability
- Building Capacity – providing training and operational resources to help institutions remain in good standing
- Building Community – offering peer mentorship and support to strengthen institutions across the province
In response to the audit results, AACC is reviewing and enhancing professional development programming to support member institutions. The Association is also engaging directly with impacted colleges to review findings and, where appropriate, offer mentorship and guidance toward remediation.
Additionally, the Private Career Colleges Branch (PCCB) has informed AACC that further changes to legislation, policy, and operations are anticipated in the coming weeks and months. The Association is committed to keeping the public and stakeholders informed as these updates unfold.
“We are working with government and our member colleges to ensure Alberta’s private career education system not only meets expectations—but exceeds them,” Ogilvie added. “This is about strengthening trust and delivering exceptional outcomes for students across Alberta.”
